Grammatical Challenges in Word Segmentation of Chinese Phonetic AlphabetOrthography

本文旨在讨论汉语非独用成分分词连写从分从合的问题,审视值得思考的现象。通过比较在国际学术界具影响力的语言学英语学术文献,提出完善分词连写的建议,认为分词连写应以句法为基础,以词为单位,并适当照顾词法,反映语素的透明度。凡是词,需分写;复合词原则上连写,但有需要时,可用连接号;附加成分、并列成分等成分,用连接号标示。

This article aims to address issues in segmentation of bound morphemes inChinese, while closely examining some other noteworthy phenomena. By comparinginternationally influential linguistic academic literature published in English, I havesome suggestions for refining the word segmentation process and the rules of theChinese phonetic alphabet orthography. Segmentation should primarily be based onsyntax, considering words as fundamental units, and properly taking into accounttheir morphological aspects to ensure a more accurate reflection of the transparencyof morphemes. In practice, this entails segmenting all individual words, combiningcompound words as a general rule, and utilizing hyphens whenever necessary forclarity. Furthermore, it is advisable to employ hyphens for indicating affixes, coordinatemorphemes, and other related bound morphemes within the text.
