"The Role of the New Stage"is a lost essay written by Sun Li,which is published on Page 14 of YishiBao in Tianjin on November 12,15 and 20,1934.Together with"The Platform Drama in Peking",it marks the beginning of Sun Li's exploration into popularizing drama.This article introduces progressive drama actors and highlights their distinctive characteristics of times:bold personalities,refined acting skills,and versatile talents.They are artists who truly delicate themselves to the people and the art,and have essential differences with the old actors.In the Peking period,Sun Li pays close attention to the progress of the times and tracks the new trends in literature and art.His articles reveal his qualities as a left-wing literary youth.In the late revolution and literary career,this trait faintly disappeared,and finally cast a unique Sun Li.
