Slavery had important influence to the development of African-American national identity.It promoted Africans developed from ethic to race,transferred their home identity from Africa to the United States,shaped a unique African-American culture through their transaction with the host society,and took American political mechanism as their interest’s political vehicle.The development of African-American national identity under slavery not only was a process that Africans acculturated voluntarily or under compulsion into host society,but also a result that they tried their best to preserve their own heritage under white’s cultural hegemony.
