摘要
《马丁·伊登》展现了主人公马丁·伊登在美国梦破灭后自杀的悲剧。作者杰克·伦敦在小说中通过呈现马丁不同的空间运动轨迹,揭示了空间实践对美国梦的参与:奥克兰和伯克利两座城市,一方面,推动马丁物质上的成功,物化了美国梦;另一方面,参与了美国梦所代表的资产阶级意识形态对工人阶级马丁的压迫,从而推动美国梦价值体系的国内帝国主义化。马丁在城市中受到资产阶级意识形态的塑造,转而对南太平洋地区进行他者想象性建构,体现出美国梦的国际帝国主义化。《马丁·伊登》通过书写城市空间与南太平洋地理空间的社会性、历史性与政治性,从而呈现美国梦的拜物主义以及意识形态的帝国主义化,从而批判美国梦的虚伪实质。
Martin Eden tells about the tragedy of the protagonist Martin Eden’s suicide after his disillusion about American dream.The author Jack London presents various spatial routines of Martin Eden and reveals the involvement of space in realizing American dream:on the one hand,Berkeley and Oakland cities contributed to Martin’s material success,making his American dream material,and on the other hand,the two cities involved in the oppression of bourgeoisie ideology to the Martin who belonged to the proletariat,thereby promoting the domestic imperialization of ideology represented by American dream.Molded by bourgeoisie ideology in the city,Martin imagined the other South Pacific area,revealing the oversea imperialization of bourgeoisie ideology behind American dream.By exploring the social,historical and political aspects of urban space and South Pacific,Martin Eden attempted to demonstrate the fetishism and imperialism ideology represented by American dream,thus criticizing the hypocritical nature of American dream.
