The emergence of the Metaverse has outlined a blueprint for our future world,where individuals can immerse themselves in a virtual world using sensory devices for various activities such as work,study,play,and socializinge,offering a more enriched and exciting life experience.This article commences with an exploration of the concept of the Metaverse,analyzing its characteristics.It further categorizes current applications and related technologies into five layers based on their purposes and functions.The article constructs the technical architecture of the Metaverse from a technological perspective and delves into the security and privacy issues that may arise in this forthcoming Metaverse world.Finally,it provides an overview of the current Metaverse applications in education,architecture,healthcare,and the gaming industry.
