The highway service area is a key link to meet the demand of public travel quality.This paper divides the planning and development history of highway service areas in Shandong province into four stages,analyzes the development and construction characteristics and laws of each stage,discusses the macro and micro problems of current service areas,and puts forward the optimization strategies for the planning and construction of highway service areas in Shandong province for the new era.
