Wu Juenong,a famous tea scholar and the first dean of Department of Tea Science,College of Agriculture,Fudan University later, returned to China after completing his tea courses in Japan in 1922.He got his first job to be a teacher at Anhui Province No.2 Vocational School of Agriculture in Wuhu. His work there lasted from the second half of 1922 to the end of 1923,a little more than one year.Limited by historical materials, biography descriptions of Wu Juenong's experience in Wuhu are short and vague, and most of them merely described Wu Juenong had to contribute to journals to subsidize his family because of school's arrears of wages. This paper uncovers more Wu Juenong's social intercourse there, and studies the reason he got this job,the courses he gave, his life anecdotes there and impacts on his tea career later, enriching the vague section of the study on Wu Juenong's life.At that time, the May 4th Movement still had some implications, and the Nationalist Revolution was just unveiled.Democracy and science were most important two ways for Chinese youth to make China great then.Wu Juenong and his friends' activities demonstrate traditional scholar gentry's multiple performances of swing between social responsibilities and scholarly research to follow the trend of times when they became modern intellectuals.
