By tracing the development of the idea of the domination of nature from ancient myths to its development to the seventeenth century onwards,William Leiss reveals that attitudes towards nature have undergone a process from fear to control.William Leiss argues that this self-confidence in being able to master nature has over-evolved into a dangerous misunderstanding,which has directly led to an ecological crisis and triggered alienation of technology,individuals,and society.Therefore,a sustainable development should be achieved by building a biological community and re-examining the role of science,technology,ethics and morality.
