Hong Kong,lying in the heart of Asia,has superior geographical location,the status of an international free port,low tax rates,free capital flow and the backing of the Chinese mainland.These are key factors for Hong Kong to serve as an international trade center.However,with the intensification of competition between China and the United States and the rapid rise of ports and airports on the mainland,Hong Kong's traditional advantages in transit trade are weakening,and its status as an international trade center has been severely challenged.Amid profound changes in the global geopolitical and trade patterns today,how will Hong Kong change as an international trade center?What is the strategic value of such changes for China's overall development?These are questions to answer through in-depth research and reflection.On the basis of reviewing the development history of Hong Kong as an international trade center,this paper analyzes the importance of international trade to Hong Kong's economy,analyzes the challenges faced by Hong Kong in the context of the global and regional competition,and proposes that it is imperative to upgrade Hong Kong as an international trade center.Finally,the paper discusses the strategic value that Hong Kong as an international trade center holds to the China as a whole from the perspectives of the internationalization of Chinese enterprises,the global supply chain,the China-ASEAN economic and trade cooperation,cross-straits economic and trade relations,international trade settlement,and explorations regarding stablecoin.
