目的论视角下《西游记》余国藩英译本的翻译研究

Translation Study of the English Version of Journey to the West by Yu Guofan from the Perspective of Skopos Theory

中国四大名著之一的《西游记》以宗教文化为基底,宗教词汇众多。英译本中余国藩全译本深受海外读者喜爱。按照奈达的文化分类标准,本文将宗教文化负载词分为神职人员或专用名称、衣着器物、行为语言三大类,探讨翻译目的论视角下《西游记》余国藩译本第五十三和五十四回的宗教文化负载词翻译效果,总结余国藩译本的翻译策略和文化传递效果。余国藩译本主要采取直译+首字母大写的方式,辅以意译、音译、分译和省译,使用异化为主、归化为辅的策略,以目标读者的视角为主,同时尊重原著,采用大量的梵语翻译,深度还原宗教词汇本意。

Journey to the West,one of China’s four great masterpieces,is based on religious culture and has a wide range of religious vocabulary.The English translation of Guofan Yu’s full translation is popular among overseas readers.According to Nida’s cultural classification standard,this paper divides religious culturally loaded words into three categories:clergy or special names,clothing and artifacts,and behaviour and language,exploring the translation effect of religious culturally loaded words in the 53rd and 54th chapters of Guofan Yu’s translation of Journey to the West under the perspective of Skopos theory,and summarizing the translation strategy and cultural transmission effect of Guofan Yu’s translation.Guofan Yu’s translation mainly adopts the method of direct translation+initial capitalisation,supplemented by paraphrase,transliteration,division and omission,using the strategy of alienation as the main and naturalisation as the supplementary,focusing on the perspective of the target readers,while respecting the original text,adopting a large number of Sanskrit translations,and restoring the original meaning of religious words in depth.
