Forced mobilization is a significant historical legacy that has influenced post-World War Ⅱ relations between Japan and ROK.Over the past 50 years, research on this issue in ROK's academia has increasingly grown under the influence of practical and political factors.Overall, the research on this topic exhibits the following characteristics.First, there is a predominance of empirical case studies, while theoretical explorations are relatively limited, indicating room for improvement in academic depth.Second, the majority of studies have focused on labor mobilization, while research on military mobilization remains relatively limited.Third, there is a lack of comparative analysis and investigation into the historical interpretive differences between Japan and ROK along with their underlying causes.AAdditionally,an inadequate objective response to the challenges posed by"New Right"scholars within ROK is evident. Moreover, recent scholarly perspectives on forced mobilization have gradually transcended the binary representation of victimizer and victim within the framework of ethnic-nationalistic narratives, and increasingly focused on questioning colonial governance responsibilities and reflecting on universal human rights concerns.
