As a continuation of the May Fourth Movement, the immense political momentum and strong public demands during the Fujian Incident largely represented the new trend in Chinese anti-Japanese sentiment at the time. This included the rising tide of nationalist sentiment since the May Fourth New Culture Movement, the increasingly strong demands for anti-Japanese salvation, and the growing pursuit of defending against humiliation and ensuring national security. These factors not only spurred the Northern Warlord government to shift from a passive to an active stance in negotiations with Japan, leading to a comprehensive victory, but also served as a political banner for anti-Japanese forces against pro-Japanese factions, ultimately leading to the fragmentation of the Northern Warlord government and changes in the political landscape. This new trend had a profound impact on the salvation movement of the Chinese people and the rise and fall of various political factions.
