Kisspeptin, encoded by KISS1 gene, which not only regulates animal reproduction in the central system, but also affects animal gametogenesis locally in the periphery,is a major regulator upstream of hypothalamic GnRH.However, recent studies have demonstrated that Kisspeptin plays an important role in the regulation of energy balance, feeding, obesity and metabolic diseases,in addition to its important role in animal reproduction. This article provides a detailed discussion on the regulation of animal metabolism by Kisspeptin in the central nervous system and peripheral tissue organs, with a focus on elucidating the latest progress in the interaction between Kisspeptin and peripheral metabolic hormones on animal metabolism. It also summarizes and analyzes the many problems that Kisspeptin faces in regulating animal metabolism,in order to fully understand the role of Kisspeptin in regulating animal metabolism and provide new strategies for the prevention and treatment of metabolic disorders in animals and humans.
