Non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy(NAION)is a significant cause of irreversible visual impairment in middle-aged and elderly individuals. With the continuous aging of the population in China and a trend toward younger disease onset, the incidence of NAION is rising.Modern medicine lacks effective and recognized treatment strategies, while Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM)offers diverse clinical approaches and shows significant efficacy.KANG Zefeng suggests that during the acute phase, promoting Qi and diuresis are crucial. In the chronic stage, understanding the appearance,Qi movement, and balancing deficiency and excess are essential. In the later stages, reinforcing Qi and nourishing blood are needed to stabilize the foundation, while clearing stasis and opening collaterals help eliminate the root cause.Based on the unique characteristics of latent pathogenic factors,a flexible application of methods like cooling blood and clearing collaterals, warming Yang and opening collaterals, and exploring and clearing collaterals is essential to eliminate deeply hidden pathogenic factors. This study summarizes KANG Zefeng's approach to diagnosing and treating NAION,leveraging the strengths of TCM to safeguard patients'visual functions and proactively address the strategic goal of aging population.
