American universities in the early 20th century faced numerous challenges brought about by the Second Industrial Revolution.In response to the social changes brought about by the technological revolution,Woodrow Wilson,then president of Princeton University,adhered to the philosophy of“Princeton in the Nation’s Service”and actively promoted the secularization and modernization of the university.To this end,he recruited talented individuals,promoted curriculum reform,vigorously rectified academic style,and actively improved the administrative management system.Although President Wilson’s tenure at Princeton was not long,during his tenure,he not only promoted the university’s transformation but also clarified Princeton’s academic mission,making Princeton a university that values both academia and pragmatism and embodies a personalized educational philosophy.Subsequent leaders and faculty have steadfastly upheld the same mission and values in different times and environments,making Princeton a haven for outstanding scholars around the world.
