Although the five long novels by Wu Shimin vary in themes and contents,they share a common core element:depicting life scenes in specific regions to highlight the cultural concept of the community for the Chinese nation within a multi-layered historical depth.The novels which are rich in local color and customs provide realistic settings that facilitate the development of the story.The trio of personal history,categorical history,and national history expands the historical depth of the texts.Observations on cultural aspects such as porcelain and clan systems construct a cultural concept of diversity and integration within the Chinese nation,achieving a multi-dimensional unity of regional characteristics,historical depth,and national cultural concepts.This unity reflects Wu Shimin’s conscious effort to integrate his own creative stance and academic research achievements into his novels.
