The Development of Higher Education in the Global South:Realistic Landscape,Current Concerns and China’s Role

全球南方作为一股新的力量在国际格局中的影响力正日益增强。当前,全球南方高等教育已经从依附中崛起,成为世界高等教育的主体和增长引擎,但依然面临知识生产能力不足、边缘处境没有发生根本性改变等问题。面向未来,全球南方高等教育应坚持内源性发展,着力构建多元多层的高等教育体系,建立广泛的高等教育国际合作,使高等教育发展立足于本国经济社会需求、服务于全球知识网络竞争力的提升。作为全球南方的天然成员,中国应深化和升级南南高等教育合作,促进全球南方高等教育发展,推动全球南方群体性崛起,构筑全球南方命运共同体。

The influence of the Global South as a new force in the international structure is increasingly vital.Nowadays,although higher education in the Global South has risen from a relier to the main body and growth engine of world higher education,it still faces problems like insufficient knowledge production capacity and no fundamental change in its marginal situation.Looking forward,higher education in the Global South should adhere to endogenous development,build a diverse and multi-layered higher education system,and establish extensive international cooperation so that the development of higher education could meet domestic economic and social needs while improving competitiveness in the global knowledge network.As a natural member of the Global South,China should deepen and upgrade south-south higher education cooperation,promote the development of higher education in the Global South,advance the collective rise of the Global South,and build a community with a shared future for the Global South.
