Study on Yu Yue’s Exegesis Based on the Concept of Balance and Symmetry

平衡对称是一种深植于汉民族文化心理的审美观念,中国古代文人的思维结构和语言结构都呈现出讲求平衡对称的特点。晚清学者俞樾将这一规律运用到训诂实践中。他常常从篇章文句结构的平衡对称角度出发,进行释词辨义,解决了一些前人未能很好解释的问题。不过,俞樾有时会夸大这种对称性对文本的制约,也造成了部分说解的牵强附会。

Balance and symmetry is a kind of aesthetic concept deeply rooted in the cultural psychology of Chinese people.The thinking structure and language structure of ancient Chinese literati are characterized by balance and symmetry.Yu Yue,a scholar in the late Qing dynasty,applied this rule to exegesis practice.He often interprets the meaning of words from the perspective of the balance and symmetry of the structure of texts and sentences,and solves some problems that predecessors have not been able to explain well.However,Yu Yue sometimes exaggerates the restriction of this symmetry to the text,which also causes the far-fetched solution of part of the explanation.
