Ubiratan D'Ambrosio is a world-famous mathematics educator who won the Felix Klein Prize in 2005 for his outstanding contributions in the field of ethnomathematical education.He is recognized for having been the creator of ethnomathematics,a concept that acknowledges,values,and respects different mathematical ideas,procedures,and practices developed by the members of distinct cultural groups.He analyzed the history of explanations of life and of natural evolution in different cultures,and had been the pursuit of peace,in all its four dimensions:individual,social,environmental,and military.He was not only an innovative thinker,a beloved international leader,but also a big-hearted lover of peace and an ethnomathematics educator who was indifferent to fame and profit.
