寒林意象源于山水题材的林木意象,在历经唐五代,直至北宋的文人画发展中,成为极具阶段特征和文人审美趣味的经典意象。它保留着唐五代的绘画传统,继承林木意象的表现技巧与认知价值,呈现出基于法度谨严、笔墨精妙的自然山林样态。与此同时,它又试图摆脱设色巧丽的装饰特性,以“运墨五色具”替代色彩,从外在世界回到内在的精神表现与人格寄兴,彰显“寒”的多样生姿,传递寒而不冷、寒而生趣的比类与喻征意义。

The cold forest imagery,derived from the forest imagery in landscape painting,became a classic motif characterized by distinct stages and literati aesthetic tastes during the development of literati painting from the Tang and Five Dynasties to the Northern Song Dynasty.This imagery retains the painting traditions of the Tang and Five Dynasties,inheriting the representational techniques and cognitive values of forest imagery,and presents a natural woodland scene with strict adherence to rules and refined brushwork.At the same time,it seeks to break away from the decorative characteristics of bright colors,using"five shades of ink"instead of color to shift from the external world to inner spiritual expression and personal symbolism.The cold forest imagery embodies diverse and lively forms of"coldness,"conveying metaphors and symbolic meanings of coldness that is not chilling but full of interest and vitality.
