The New Wave is usually summarized as a revolution of film language that occurred in France. But in fact,it encompasses diverse meanings. To define the New Wave, one needs to start by establishing two frames:who and when.On the one hand, this movement concerns two major figures,Jean-Luc Godard and Chris Marker. On the other, what it means connects with the origin and duration of the New Wave. The spirit of the New Wave explored by Godard and Marker continued in various ways over the next few decades. It made profound and persistent changes in aspects such as film language, political discourse, technology, economic practice and so forth.Meanwhile, the New Wave is way beyond a mere event or movement, its influences has long overflowed worldwide.
