The Second World War was extremely brutal, dragging 60 countries and regions and more than 2 billion people in.The contemporaneous literature was profoundly extensive. However, only a thin diary left by a thin Dutch girl called Anne Frank, which has been translated into over 70 languages with a circulation of above 30 million copies around the world, survived to be the most influential and comprehensive record of the lives of ordinary people during that catastrophe and a major document reflecting on fascism in the West. The Diary of Anne Frank documented the two-year isolation and hiding of eight Jews inside the back room of a building in Amsterdam and displayed the complex personalities and human nature under abnormal circumstances, particularly Anne's complicated inner world and its change over time. The fact that Anne's diary still attracts a great deal of interest and sparks a great amount of conversations worldwide nearly 80 years later highlights the contemporary value of this masterpiece.
