Hidden Appearance:Contemporary Interpretation of the Historic Remnants of Shanghai Rowing Club

上海划船俱乐部建筑位于上海市中心城区外滩历史文化风貌区内,同时处在“一江一河”的交汇处,对延续历史文脉和保留城市肌理具有重要意义,在上海新一轮城市更新及苏州河沿岸公共空间整体提升的大背景下,这座建筑经再利用改造设计成为一处富有活力的滨水公共空间。文章梳理了划船俱乐部的历史变迁,指出该建筑的遗产价值;围绕建筑师针对该建筑再生设计处理新旧关系时提出的“透明的叠合、可读的复原”策略,分析了建筑师对划船俱乐部不同建筑遗存部分采取的不同处理方式,以及对周边特殊城市文脉的积极回应。以期为建筑遗产在当代的再利用提供新的设计理念和改造途径。

The Shanghai Rowing Club is located at the confluence of Huangpu River and Suzhou Creek in the Bund Historic and Cultural District in Shanghai.It is of great significance to continuing the historical context and preserving the urban fabric.In Shanghai’s recent urban regeneration to improve the public spaces along the Suzhou Creek,this building was renovated into a vibrant waterfront public space.This article explores the historical evolution of the Rowing Club and accentuates the building’s heritage value.It then delves into the architect’s strategy of‘transparent overlap and legible reconstruction’to interpret the relationship between the old and the new during the building’s renovation.Further,it analyses the approaches taken to handle various architectural remnants of the Rowing Club and the positive responses to the unique urban context.The article aims to provide new design concepts and methods for the contemporary renovation and reuse of heritage buildings.
