Transpostion of Bodyhood: the Idolatrous Procession and Rural Basketball Game in Shishi

本文以福建省石狮市的乡村篮球竞赛和民间信仰之间的关系为中心,讨论二者互动与融合的内在逻辑和历史过程。石狮地区的篮球竞赛经历了两个阶段的转义过程,篮球在20世纪初期传入中国,起初传达了一种对身体的现代性理解,而后在民族主义思潮的影响下,成为塑造新国民身体的方式。自80年代以来,它日渐被传统的民间信仰仪式所吸纳,成为迎神赛会中的一个常见环节。这个复杂的历史过程,既体现了地方性与现代性之间的冲突和改造,也呈现出民间信仰吸纳、融合其他文化形式的内生动力。

This paper focuses on the relationship between rural basketball game and folk beliefs in Shishi City,Fujian Province,and discusses the internal logic and historical process of the interaction and integration of the two.Two transformations are noteworthy.Basketball was introduced to China in the early 20th century,initially conveying a modern understanding of the body,and later becoming a way to shape the citizens'bodies of a new nation under the influence of nationalism.Since the 80s,it has been increasingly absorbed by traditional folk beliefs and ceremonies,and has become a common part of the idolatrous procession.This complex historical process not only reflects the conflict and mutual transformation between locality and modernity,but also shows the endogenous power of folk beliefs to absorb and integrate other cultural forms.
