地方史及相关图文资料的翻译策略

The Translation Strategy for Local History and Relevant Images and Texts

地方史按记述时限,可分为通史和断代史;按记述内容,可分为综合史和专题史;按行政区划层级,可分为省级、地市级和县级史。博物馆展厅历史文本的英译应该至少做到如下三点:一、要让外国人看得懂译本内容;二、进一步追求文学性更强的文字;三、原文的重组和内容的增删要尽可能保留其主要内容。本文结合笔者在宁波中国港口博物馆“海濡之地·北仑史迹陈列”展览的翻译实践,对上述概念进行论证。

According to time period covered,local histories are categorized into general histories and dynastic ones,into comprehensive and thematic ones according to content and into provincial,prefectural and county-lev-el ones according to geographic extent.The English-language translation of history-related texts in museum gal-leries should at least meet the following requirements:(1)first of all,foreign visitors should be able to under-stand the translation;(2)secondly,translators may go further by making them more literary;(3)finally,recom-positions,additions or deletions of the original text should not distort the later's meanings.Ningbo,Drawing on the author's translating pratices within China Port Museum's display"A land Closely Connected with Seas:History of Beilun"in Ningbo,the paper supports the views mentioned above.
