EXCERPTS FROM MAJOR CHINESE MAGAZINES GREEN MOUNTAINS AND CRYSTAL WATERS Outlook Weekly 3 June Guizhou Province in southwest China was once ecologically fragile,but nowadays its forested areas are increasing and it is standing out as a pioneer in pursuing ecological progress.In recent years,the ecology in major river basins and mountainous areas has markedly improved.According to Guizhou’s forestry authorities,the area affected by karst rocky desertification has been cut down to 15,500 square km from 37,600 square km in 2005.
