On the Tarskian Turn of Modern Western Theories of “Truth”

“真”是西方哲学中一个十分重要的概念,真理论是西方哲学的重大研究课题。20世纪30年代以来,真理论逐渐发生了所谓的“塔斯基转向”:在研究的视角上,发生了从本质到功能的转向;在研究的目标上,发生了从揭示本质到防止悖论的转向;在研究的基础上,发生了从认识论到语言学的转向;在研究的进路上,发生了从下定义到公理化的转向。理解塔斯基转向对于理解现代西方真理论的本质特征具有重要意义。

“Truth” is a very important concept in Western philosophy,and the theory of truth is a major research topic in Western philosophy.The so-called “Tarskian turn” of theories of truth has gradually occurred since the 1930s.That is,turn from essence to function in the perspective of research,from revealing the essence of truth to warding off paradoxes in the goal of research,from epistemology to linguistics on the basis of research,and from definition to axiomatization in the approach of research.Understanding the Tarskian turn is important for understanding the essential features of modern Western theories of truth.
