With the acceleration of population aging in China, the prevalence of senile ophthalmopathy is on the rise. The resulting visual abnormalities and low vision severely impact the quality of life for affected patients.Among various treatment methods for senile ophthalmopathy, the"Kidney Deficiency and Blood Stasis"theory proposed by the Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM)master ZHANG Daning offers a novel clinical perspective. The pathogenesis of senile ophthalmopathy is primarily located in kidney, often due to kidney deficiency failing to nourish the eyes, leading to blood stasis obstructing the clear orifices.Kidney deficiency is root, and blood stasis is the manifestation, with both interdependent and causative of each other. This paper explores the clinical application value of the"Kidney Deficiency and Blood Stasis"theory in diagnosing and treating senile ophthalmopathy, suggesting that the method of tonifying kidney and activating blood can serve as a fundamental treatment approach for senile ophthalmopathy.Common prescriptions for tonifying kidney and activating blood are provided, which both replenish vital energy and eliminate tangible pathogens, balancing the forces of tonification and elimination to achieve the goals of supplementing without retaining stasis and dispelling stasis without damaging the healthy Qi.
