Theoretical Resources and Construct of Leo Ou⁃fan Lee’s Chinese Modernity

李欧梵从中国式现代性的实际境况出发,将西方的现代性研究作为发现和解决中国问题的工具,在与理论对话的过程中,对中国式现代性进行了三个方面的建构。首先,他将中国式现代性与西方现代性并置,管窥中国式文化现代性的面貌。其次,他致力于研究中国式现代性想象的风貌,重点论述了晚清时期民族国家想象的形成过程,以及上海都市文化的想象、张爱玲作品中对日常生活的想象。另外,他在后现代性理论语境下,对中国式现代性中的历史感进行了分析。

Leo Ou⁃fan Lee approaches the study of Western modernity as a tool to uncover and address the unique challenges of Chinese modernity.In his theoretical framework,he constructs Chinese modernity through three primary dimensions.First,by juxtaposing Chinese and Western modernity,he explores the nuances of Chinese cultural modernity.Second,Lee delves into the imagery landscape of Chinese modernity,examining the formation of the nation⁃state imagination during the late Qing Dynasty(1644 AD-1911 AD),the urban cultural imagination of Shanghai,and the daily life imagination in the works of Zhang Ailing(张爱玲).Additionally,he analyzes the historical consciousness within Chinese modernity through the lens of postmodern theory.This multifaceted approach highlights the distinctive characteristics and evolving narratives of Chinese modernity.
