摘要 理查德·鲍尔斯曾与音乐结缘,其小说创作与文学审美亦深受音乐之影响。他将音乐元素融入小说创作,使之成为连接小说人物之纽带,或推动小说情节发展,甚至成为小说的主题。同时,他还借鉴音乐中的对位法形成其独特的对位叙事——双线对位叙事与多线对位叙事,从而使其作品成为巴赫金所谓的复调小说。其小说中的音乐叙事是一种跨媒介、跨学科的艺术融合,也是一种典型的多模态叙事。这种文学与音乐的融合既是一种艺术的回归,更是一种跨艺术的发展。其小说中的音乐叙事不仅突破了小说与音乐艺术之畛域,还揭示出文学创作的多模态审美旨趣。 Richard Powers’profound connection with music significantly influences his novel writing and literary aesthetics.He incorporates musical elements into his novel writing,using them to connect characters,drive plot development,and even serve as central themes.Meanwhile,he also draws on the contrapuntal techniques from music to form his unique counterpoint narrative style—featuring dual and multi-line counterpoint narratives,thus transforming his works into what Bakhtin describes as polyphonic novels.The musical narratives in his novels represent a cross-media and interdisciplinary artistic integration,and also a typical example of multimodal narration.This literature-music fusion not only signifies an artistic return but also marks a developmental advance across art forms.The musical narratives in his novels transcend the boundaries between literature and music,further revealing the multimodal aesthetics in literary creation.
