The drama translation lacks systematicness, hierarchy, logic, operability and comprehensiveness. Therefore,it is urgent to determine a clear, specific and feasible translation standard.Based on this, taking two translations of the British classic drama Much Ado about Nothing as examples, this paper analyzes the pragmatic expectations of readers, stage actors, performance audience and people behind the scenes of the drama translation in view of the diversity of audiences in the target language culture, and refines the principle of“performability”into four criteria:literary appreciation, performance presentation, popular simplicity and stage operability. The analysis of drama translation standards is conducive to the cross-cultural communication of classic drama in the world, restoring the original value of drama art for people of all countries, and providing reference and reflection for drama translation practitioners.
