茂荆堡是闽中地区一种特殊的传统土堡建筑民居,其主要特点在于其独特的防御性设计,不仅继承了传统的土堡防御形制,并充分利用自然环境依山构筑,集堡、家、祠于一体,堪为居住加防御两用的传统防御民居的独特典范。从防御的角度分析茂荆堡的建造来源,从自然环境、社会环境两个方向分析它的建设背景;从生存、防御、祭祀3个角度剖析它的建设意义,综合多种因素和角度来了解茂荆堡是在怎样的背景下应运而生的。

Maojing Fortress is a special traditional earthen fortress architecture residential architecture in the central Fujian region.Its main feature is its unique defensive design,which not only inherits the traditional defensive form of earthen fortresses,but also fully utilizes the natural environment to build on the mountain.It combines fortresses,homes,and ancestral hall into one,serving as a unique example of traditional defensive residential architecture that serve both residential and defensive purposes.The article analyzes the construction of Maojing Fortress from a defense perspective,examining its construction background from the natural environment and social environment.It delves into the significance of its construction from the perspectives of survival,defense,and worship,integrating multiple factors and angles to understand how Maojing Fortress came into being in what kind of context.
