卡特福德翻译转换理论在英汉翻译实践中的应用——以《哑巴之舌》第八章为例

该文运用卡特福德的翻译转换理论对赞比亚作家多米尼克·穆莱绍的作品《哑巴之舌》的部分翻译进行具体分析。研究发现该小说的翻译文本运用了翻译转换理论中的层次转换和范畴转换下的结构转换、类别转换及单位转换。具体而言,层次转换中使用了时态转换和单复数转换;结构转换中涉及了肯否定转换、主被动转换和前后置定语转换;类别转换中包括了英语介词转译为汉语动词和英语形容词转译为汉语动词;单位转换涉及单词转化为短语和句子转化为分句。该文进一步验证了翻译转换理论对小说文本英汉翻译的重要指导作用,以期为未来的英汉翻译实践提供相关经验。

This paper makes use of Catford's Translation Shifts to analyze the translation of Zambian writer Dominic Mulaisho's The Tongue of the Dumb.It is found that the translated text of the novel uses level shifts and category shifts which include structural shifts,class shifts and unit shifts.To be specific,tense conversion and singular-plural conversion are used in level shifts.The structural shifts involve positive-negative transformation,active-passive transformation and attributive transformation.Class shifts include the transformation of English prepositions into Chinese verbs and English adjectives into Chinese verbs.Unit shifts involve the conversion of words to phrases and sentences to clauses.This paper further verifies the important guiding role of Translation Shifts in novel translation,in order to provide relevant experience for the future practice of E-C translation.
