The major ways of the economic interactions between the Later Roman Empire and the barbarians around the Mediterranean World were the frontiers of the empire. The exchanges of commodities included the luxury goods and the bulk commodities of consumer goods. To combine the literatures and the archaeological achievements,we could come to the conclusion that there was a character of the chronicity in time, whether the long-distance trades of the luxury goods or the trades of the bulk consumer goods between the empire and the barbarians around the Mediterranean World. At the meantime, the everyday economic interactions between the empire and the barbarians around it was not limited in some specific areas, but occurred widely in the all of the frontiers of the empire. In general, the economic interactions had mutual benefit to the both sides, and the mutual benefit was the basic reason to ensure the economic interactions between them to exist chronically and widely.
