Polyvinyl chloride(PVC)is widely used in the industrial field because of its excellent mechanical properties, electrical insulation, and flame retardant performance. At present, the production processes of PVC mainly include calcium carbide method and ethylene method.Due to the resource characteristics of"abundant coal and insufficient oil"in China, the domestic PVC market is mainly dominated by the calcium carbide method.Calcium carbide production belongs to the high energy consuming industry, and the production process will cause carbon dioxide emissions and electricity consumption. How to calculate the carbon emissions of the calcium carbide production industry and guide its low-carbon,energy-saving,and sustainable development is an urgent problem that needs to be solved for the high-quality development of the calcium carbide industry. This article provides an overview of the current production status, production scale,energy-saving and consumption reducing measures, carbon emission accounting, and carbon emissions in the PVC industry in the calcium carbide industry, and analyzes the carbon emissions of each process and the processes and measures to reduce carbon emissions,in order to provide reference for low-carbon emission reduction and energy-saving in the preparation of PVC by calcium carbide method.
