Reception of The Art of War in English and Spanish:Insights from topic modeling

主题建模作为一种文本挖掘技术,能从语料中自动提取并归类相似主题下的关键词,以推断出语料中的潜在主题。将主题建模用于分析《孙子兵法》英语读者和西班牙语读者在亚马逊网站上的在线评论语料,可获取该中国经典作品在西方的双语接受细节。研究发现,英语和西语读者对《孙子兵法》高度关注的话题主要集中在“翻译质量”“排版装帧”和“营销定价”。研究认为,以《孙子兵法》为例的中国经典西行不仅需要“接地气”的翻译策略,也需要特色鲜明的装帧设计、合理可行的定价和广泛的销售渠道。

Topic modelling,as a text mining technique,can automatically extract and classify words under similar topics from a corpus to infer potential topics in the corpus.This study uses topic modelling to analyze online reviews of The Art of War by English and Spanish readers on Amazon,aiming to understand how this Chinese classic is received by bilingual readers in the West.The research findings reveal that English and Spanish readers show a high level of interest in topics such as"translation quality"editing and binding"and"marketing and pricing".The study suggests that an effective promotion of Chinese classics,like The Art of War,in the Western market requires not only a well-grounded translation strategy but also distinctive book binding,reasonable pricing,and extensive distribution channels.
