In order to clarify the research status and trends of traditional gardens, and better promote the inheritance and development of traditional garden culture,a quantitative visualization method is used to sort out relevant literature on traditional gardens. The core research of Peking University related to traditional gardens from 2004 to 2023,collected from the CNKI database, was used as the method CSCD and CSSCI journal paper data were used as samples, and the quantitative software CiteSpace was used to generate a visual knowledge graph for comprehensive analysis of the research topic. The study of traditional classical gardens in China has gone through three periods of germination, development, and peak, with an overall upward trend in the number of literature. However, the number of publications has decreased since 2019.Research institutions such as Beijing Forestry University,South China University of Technology, and Tianjin University have the most significant literature output, forming four main research regional groups in China, but the academic connections between each region are weak. The research hotspots mainly revolve around“traditional garden construction”,“aesthetics”,“reference and application”,etc..Currently,research on traditional gardens lacks interdisciplinary, multi platform cooperation, and cross regional cooperation.
