中外学者国际期刊论文引言中隐喻使用的多因素分析

A multifactorial analysis of metaphor use in international journal article introductions by English native and Chinese scholars

本研究对应用语言学国际期刊论文引言中隐喻使用的母语背景、源域、词性和语步变量开展了多因素分析。结果显示,整体上隐喻多维特征的两因素和三因素交互均达到显著性水平。中外学者隐喻使用的源域与词性、语步均存在显著交互效应,但在具体层面上存在差异:隐喻载体词为动词和形容词时,两组学者的[位置]、[物体]和[移动]隐喻使用具有显著性差异。英语本族语学者在“确立研究领域”语步使用更多[移动]隐喻,在“填补研究空白”语步使用更多[物体]隐喻;中国学者则在“建立研究空间”语步使用更多[言语]隐喻。本研究较全面地揭示了应用语言学国际期刊论文引言中隐喻使用的多维特征及其交互关系,能为学术英语写作教学和国际学术发表提供参考。

This study conducts a multifactorial analysis of the first language,source domain,word class and move variables of metaphor use in international journal article introductions in the realm of applied linguistics.The results show that in general all two-way and three-way interactions of multidimensional metaphor features are statistically significant.The source domains used by both English native and Chinese scholars have significant interactions with word classes and moves.Nonetheless,they differ significantly on specific levels.The two groups of scholars differ significantly in the use of LOCATION,PHYSICAL OBJECT and MOVEMENT metaphors when metaphor-related words are employed as verbs and adjectives.English native scholars use more MOVEMENT and PHYSICAL OBJECT metaphors in Move 1(establishing a territory)and Move 3(occupying the niche)respectively,while Chinese scholars use more SPEECH metaphors in Move 2(establishing a niche).The study comprehensively reveals the multidimensional features of metaphor use and their interactions in international journal article introductions of applied linguistics,offering implications for EAP writing pedagogy and international academic publication.
