The Impact of Service Input Quality on the Advancement of Manufacturing’s Position in the Global Value Chain

制造业与服务业的融合是制造业高质量发展的重要方式,利用中国行业层面的数据实证分析了制造业服务投入质量对其全球价值链位置提升的影响。结果显示,制造业服务投入质量的提高促进了制造业全球价值链位置的提升,这种作用通过提高企业生产成本和促进技术创新两个渠道实现。异质性分析表明,研发设计服务、商务服务和金融服务等生产性服务投入质量的提升,促进了制造业全球价值链位置的提升。因此,加快生产性服务业的高质量发展,促进制造业与服务业的深度融合,是实现中国制造业在全球价值链位置提升的关键。

The integration of manufacturing and services represents a significant approach to high-quality development in the manufacturing sector.Utilizing industry-level data from China,this paper empirically examines the influence of service input quality on enhancing the manufacturing sector’s position in the global value chain.The findings reveal that improving the quality of service inputs in manufacturing fosters an elevation in the manufacturing sector’s global value chain position.This effect is realized through two channels:increasing the production cost of enterprises and promoting technological innovation.The analysis of heterogeneity shows that the improvement of the quality of productive services such as R&D and design services,business services and financial services has promoted the improvement of the position of the manufacturing sector’s position in the global value chain.Therefore,accelerating the high-quality development of the productive service industry and promoting the deep integration of the manufacturing industry and the service industry are pivotal in advancing China’s manufacturing industry in the global value chain.
