Addressing the challenge of monitoring exhaust emissions from existing railway track and signaling maintenance equipment powered by diesel engines during construction within tunnels,a comprehensive test was conducted on a typical mechanized ballast cleaning train. An integrated monitoring method was proposed, primarily relying on fixed-point detection near the engines, complemented by individual monitoring in the driver’s cab and among ground personnel. This method is designed to monitor levels of deadly harmful gases such as CO within tunnels, triggering audible, visual, and electrical alarms when exceeding safety thresholds, thereby enabling prompt response measures.Experimental results demonstrate that this approach can effectively monitor changes in the mass concentration of harmful gases like CO at critical points throughout the mechanized construction process in tunnels.Additionally,it provides technical support for the development of engine exhaust purification devices and ventilation, smoke, and dust exhaust facilities.
