Objective To explore the effect of continuity of care on peripherally inserted central venous catheter(PICC)catheter-related complications in postoperative chemotherapy patients with breast cancer. Methods A total of 166 breast cancer patients who underwent postoperative chemotherapy in our hospital from May 2022 to November 2023 were selected and divided into observation group and control group by random number table method, with 83 cases in each group. The control group used conventional nursing, and the observation group used continuity nursing. The incidence of PICC catheter-related complications,PICC catheter self-management ability and quality of life were evaluated in the two groups. Results The incidence of PICC catheter-related complications in the observation group was lower than that in the control group(P<0.05),the total score of PICC catheter self-management ability was higher than that in the control group(P<0.05),and the scores of various dimensions and total score of functional assessment of cancer therapy-General(FACT-G)were higher than that in the control group(P<0.05).Conclusions Adopting continuity of care programme for patients with PICC catheter placement for postoperative chemotherapy for breast cancer can effectively reduce the incidence of PICC catheter-related complications and improve the patients'ability of self-management of PICC catheter, which is an effective nursing programme.
