Frontiers and Prospects of Multimodal Metaphor Research

本文回顾了多模态隐喻研究的发展历程,重点评述了其在理论、方法和研究体裁等方面的前沿成果。在理论上,多学科知识融合促成了多模态隐喻研究的微观、中观和宏观多维描写路径。在方法上,多模态隐喻的识别与量化分析方法得到了较大优化,主要表现在新分析框架的制定、多模态隐喻语料库的开发以及多模态民族志方法的运用。在分析体裁上,多模态隐喻研究涵盖了包括新兴数字语篇在内的几乎所有体裁类型。本文最后讨论了多模态隐喻研究存在的问题,并对未来研究提出了建议。

This article provides an overview of multimodal metaphor research,with a focus on its advancements in theories,methodologies and research genres.Theoretically,the synthesis of multidisciplinary knowledge has yielded a multidimensional framework for the micro-,meso-and macro-descriptions of multimodal metaphor.Methodologically,substantial advancements have been made in the identification and quantitative analysis of multimodal metaphor,epitomized by the applications of novel frameworks,multimodal corpora and multimodal ethnographic methods.Regarding genre analysis,multimodal metaphor research covers almost all genres,including the emerging digital media genres.Finally,the remaining problems in multimodal metaphor research are discussed,and suggestions for future research are proposed.
