The N gas storage is the first offshore gas storage and the first gas storage converted from an oil reservoir in China. In the pilot testing phase, the optimization plan and layout centered around the economic benefits, with the existing facilities in the oilfield fully utilized and the potential of the existing system fully unleashed. The testing objectives were successfully achieved by strengthening design management, procurement management, construction management, testing management, and HSE management. In the construction and operation practice, concerning plenty of difficulties such as the evaluation and governance of old systems, inconvenient maritime transportation, long procurement cycle of compressors, and unsuitable production and operation, management methods were explored accordingly, such as recycling and leasing compressors, reasonable coordination of sea transportation, and adjustment of production parameters. Moreover, technologies were innovated, such as clog-free pipeline cleaning technology combining immersion with the use of steel ball,injection-augmenting technology achieved by short-distance series pipelines with a small capacity, and rapid construction of warehouses technology achieved by gas lift and liquid discharge. In the problem-solving process, considerable experience and practices have been accumulated, providing a reference for the construction of similar gas storages.
