Fu Xihua is a renowned Chinese classical literature scholar,book collector,and social activist.The various types of cards in his collection are important materials for studying printing techniques in Beijing during the Republic of China period.This paper organizes the cards in Fu's collection into different categories,identifies the printing techniques from multiple perspectives,covering invitations,New Year cards,and postcards.It is found that during the Republic of China period,cards were printed using different techniques such as lead typesetting,engraving,color relief printing,and intaglio printing.The exquisite,neat,and delicate print are a perfect combination of old and new printing techniques with traditional Chinese craftsmanship.Fu Xihua's collection of cards not only shows the high level of printing technology in Beijing during the Republic of China,but also provides reference for modern printing technology.It is a precious witness of the transition period of card printing technology industry at that time,and provides valuable perspectives and materials for studying the culture,art and printing technology of that era.
