May’s Dream is a short novel written by the well-known Burmese female writer Journal Kyaw Ma Ma Lay in 1955.The novel tells the story of a girl named Tin Ma Lay,who narrates her dream about a horse to an old woman named Daw Le.Based on her interpretation of the dream,Daw Le begins gambling on horse racing and winning bets.However,the wealth gained by greedy Daw Le through horse racing eventually vanishes like a dream bubble.The plot of the novel is concise,portraying two typical female characters:the innocent and kind Tin Ma Lay and the strong and greedy Daw Le.The study attempts to analyze the portrayal of the female protagonist in the novel from her perspectives on family,marriage,and money,in order to have a comprehensive and profound understanding of Journal Kyaw Ma Ma Lay’s female literary creation.
