“船”是明清小说中常见的交通物象,在小说中承担着特定的叙事功能。但相比于其他小说,《儒林外史》中“船”物象的叙事功能尤为突出。“船”不仅仅是承载人物的交通工具,更深入小说叙事肌理,调节文本叙事节奏、成为叙事线索。同时“船”作为一种半封闭的叙事空间,在展现人物的相会、人物的进退场方面发挥着重要作用。

“船(chuan)”is a common traffic image in the novels of the Ming and Qing dynasties,which bears a specific narrative function.However,compared with other novels,the narrative function of“船(chuan)”image in The Scholars is particularly prominent.It is not only a vehicle,but also deeply participates in the narrative texture of the novel,adjusting the narrative rhythm of the text and becoming a narrative clue.Meanwhile,as a semi-closed narrative space,it plays an important role in showing the encounter of characters as well as the entry and exit of characters.
