Focusing on"speed",this paper explores the complex biological and social variations of the body within the context of an accelerating society. It builds on the works of Paul Virilio and David Harvey, particularly their discussions on social space and interactive rituals. On one hand, the agents of speed encompass not just the body but also technology, means of acceleration, and cognitive justice. The history of modern competitive sports is also a history of human's speed revolution. The crises faced in modern physical competition arise from an excessive pursuit of speed. On the other hand, technological advancements in the speed revolution have reshaped human-world relations by altering the body's spatial position. This strengthens the interdependence of physical and social spaces and renews the expression of the social body in modernity. In summary, the speed revolution drives human self-alienation,making the"heavy body"a common state. The prominence of"accidental consciousness"brings uncertainty, while frequent shifts in social space perception lead to perceptual delays and physical anxiety.
