Discourse Logic Analysis in English Translation of of T’ien-kung K’ai-wu

中华典籍英译的重要性与挑战性在全球化语境下越来越不言而喻。借助于案例分析、对比研究等方法,本文着重剖析中国科技典籍《天工开物》英译本话语逻辑的三个维度,亦即语境的逻辑关系、事实的逻辑关系以及叙事的逻辑关系。在此基础上,进一步挖掘出与之相对应的英译策略。研究结果表明:正确处理源语文本与目标语文本之间的各种话语逻辑关系,应该成为译者追求高质量译文,实现有效文化交流与传播的必要途径。

The importance and challenge of translating Chinese classics into English have become increasingly self-evident in the context of globalization.Through methods such as case analysis and comparative research,this paper focuses on analyzing the three dimensions of discourse logic in the English translation of the Chinese scientific and technological classic T’ien-kung K’ai-wu,namely,the logical relationships of context,facts,and narration.Based on this analysis,corresponding English translation strategies are further explored.The result shows that appropriately constrcuting the various discourse logical relationships between the source text and the target text should be a necessary approach for translators to pursue high-quality translations and achieve effective cultural exchange and dissemination.
