The waterways of Pearl River Estuaries are penetrating through different towns and cities, welcoming imported cultures. From the fish village to the metropolis in the last century, the city development of Hong Kong has been developing through integrating Western planning model into the local‘water-land-human-culture context, thus constructing a high-density city. From trading to light industry, without much resources, the city gained the fame of‘Made-in-Hong Kong’,but destroying the indigenous landscape at the same time.Between mountains and seas, the Hong Kong style mix-use industrial-commercial-residential-entertainment buildings become common, yet sacrificing the natural landscape.Among the high-density high-efficient city,to create a lively urban stream is a fantasy in contemporary Hong Kong.Maybe with the community assistance, the academia may rediscover the human landscape that reveals the sustainable development in the post-industrial society, thus inheriting the water-borne regional culture. After experiencing numerous trials,an urban river culture combining blue-green infrastructures is aspiring an imagination of urban regeneration and a vision for participatory planning.
