Focusing on young women in inland small towns, the research collects data through digital diaries and in-depth interviews to discuss their motivations for participating in cyber cat petting and their daily lives.Utilizing Anthony Giddens’concept of“life politics,”the analysis reveals how women in small towns bridge the contradictions between life and work through cyber cat petting, achieve self-construction,and resist traditional fertility concepts through pet raising. The study finds that cyber cat petting provides a social connection for women in small towns, helping them establish independent social circles, realize self-worth,and promote the redefinition of gender roles in the context of procreation.
